Pool Safety & Information |
The in-ground swimming pool can be a thing of joy and beauty forever. There are many safety issues that prudent homeowners should be keenly aware of, especially with small children. We recommend pool safety alarms at all exterior doors from the home to the pool area. Also, we recommend pool fencing. Drownings are the number one leading cause of accidental deaths among children under five in Florida. Each year nationwide, more than 300 children under the age of 5 years drown in residential swimming pools according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
-
Fence the pool and install self-closing and self-latching gates that are out of reach of children.
-
Secure all doors and windows leading to the pool area and install door alarms.
-
Keep rescue equipment by the pool.
-
Place tables and chairs away from the fence to prevent children from climbing into the pool area.
-
Keep a telephone by the pool so you don’t have to leave children unattended while answering a telephone inside the home.
-
Do not use flotation devices as substitutes for supervision.
-
Keep toys away from the pool. A young child playing could accidentally fall into the water.
-
Always provide competent adult supervision when the pool is in use.
